One of my favorite stories from the bible is of Mary Magdalene and the women visiting the tomb on Easter morning and discovering that the body of Jesus is not there. Why did Christ first reveal himself to a woman? Why didn't she recognize him? There are so many aspects to ponder in the Resurrection. In this painting, the lamp held by the women represents our man-made light. Ego, inventions, hard work… anything we seek to control and call our own. In the distance is the sunrise, God’s gift to divide our earthly days between work and rest. And finally, the light of the Resurrection, shining brightest of all… the light that will never be extinguished. We can be encompassed in that light if we do not cling to the others. He is risen!
The original painting is available at the Sacred Art Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ. (480) 946-1003‬.

Jen worked as a Graphic Designer in the Silicon Valley where developing marketing communications materials helped push her from purely personal expression to full conversation. After a decade in that field, Jen left to pursue painting and raise her daughter. Everyday moments of faith, family and...

Jen, This piece is amazing and holds so much in it-while art speaks on its own, there are so many messages within this piece-and yes, Christ appeared to the women first! There is a message even within that! Blessings to you! He is risen!
