Description
The "Canticle of Mary" (aka "the Magnificat") found in Luke 1:46-55 is an exclamation by the Blessed Mother as she comes to full realization that the child she carries is indeed the Savior of the world as the Angel Gabriel described.
In this artwork, I have painted Mary in the feminine pink coloring of the 3rd week of Advent (Gaudete Sunday) and her body and spirit are bursting with love and hope like flowers in a garden. The story of leaving home and traveling to the hill country to visit Elizabeth and Zechariah is illustrated across the lower section of the painting. She is accompanied by the Holy Spirit and is both contemplative and joyful in her expression as she proclaims the first part of her song of gratitude:
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For He has looked with favor on His lowly servant.
From this day, all generations will call me blessed.
The Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is His Name.
